A Scala Penetrometer, also known as a Dynamic Cone Penetrometer or DCP, allows the user to measure near-surface soil resistance, typically up to 2-5m depth, to determine bearing capacity as defined by New Zealand standard NZS 3604:2011. The Magmo Scala Penetrometer kit is an extremely useful field tool for profiling soil strength at depth. The kit comes complete with a hard wearing, multi-layer, washable carry case.

To increase longevity, we recommend using the Magmo Collapsible Scala Extractor, for pulling rods vertically out of the ground, to avoid damage to threads caused by wiggling rods up or using the drop weight to hammer them up.
